Sci-Fi Fashion Touring Exhibition

AN ADVENTURE IN OUTER SPACE — BUT WHAT TO WEAR?

Imagine an intergalactic fashion store where the mannequins are dressed for another world: starship uniforms, alien armour, futuristic fashions and space helmets.

These aren’t replicas. They are original, screen-used costumes, recognisable from some of the most memorable Science-Fiction and Fantasy films and television shows ever made.

The Sci-Fi Fashion Touring Exhibition turns one of the UK’s largest collections of screen-used Sci-Fi costumes into a spectacular visitor experience designed to attract, entertain and inspire.

A visitor magnet for fans and families

Science fiction has an extraordinary ability to cross generations. Parents who grew up with iconic movies can share them with children discovering these worlds for the first time. Film fans, families, artists, designers and curious visitors all have a reason to come — and plenty to discover once they’re here.

Up close, visitors can explore the creativity, craftsmanship and design thinking behind the characters they know and love.

And because these are physical objects from the screen, visitors experience something increasingly rare — the opportunity to see movie history at close quarters.

From movie magic to design inspiration

The exhibition celebrates costume as an essential part of cinematic world-building.

How do you make an alien believable?
How do you make a hero instantly recognisable?
How do designers imagine clothing for a future that doesn’t yet exist?

These are questions that make the exhibition relevant far beyond film fandom. It opens up conversations about fashion, art, design, technology, popular culture and the creative process itself.

A proven audience appeal

Curated from one of the UK’s largest collections of science-fiction costumes, the exhibition has already attracted large and enthusiastic family audiences at museums and galleries across the UK, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Europe.

For museums and cultural venues, it offers an opportunity to introduce a highly recognisable subject into the programme — creating a strong reason to visit while complementing existing exhibitions, collections and visitor experiences.

Big screen characters. Extraordinary costumes. A whole universe of stories.

Prepare for lift-off

Bring the magic of science fiction into your museum and give your visitors an experience they’ll want to see, share and remember.

The Sci-Fi Fashion Touring Exhibition — where movie magic meets fashion, design and imagination.

The Sci-Fi Fashion Costumes Exhibition highlights the central role of costumes in cinema storytelling, adding authenticity and propelling the narrative – providing a fascinating encounter, up-close and personal, for the whole family and a must-see for film buffs, artists, and designers.

We had some brilliant feedback about the costumes being on display at Capital Sci Fi Con 2023. Having movie-used costumes from really popular franchises, as well as more niche ones that our attendees love was a great addition to our event. They were beautifully presented and maintained and sparked a lot of interest.

We had over 3000 people visit across the weekend, and 68 filled in a feedback survey. Of those 68, 50 said that they visited the display. This is great, as a lot of people who filled in the survey were families so might have avoided that with children in tow (sticky fingers!) or brought more than just themselves to the display.
